Casualty
Casualty of GRH is the first area of contact of any emergecy patient who is brought to GRH. The Medical Officer mans the casualty round the clock. In the likely event of an emergency patient being brought to the casualty the duty doctor first assesses the patient and checks for
- Airway
- Breathing
- Circulation
- Dysfunction of any system
- Exposes the patient to check for injuries
- Fluid resuscitation is started along with Correction of above dysfunctions
Specialists are summoned immediately.
A window to the efficiency of GRH is the incident of 26th July 2009, when 33 patients were brought after a major motor vehicle accident. All GRH staff worked hand in hand and settled the crisis by treating all the patients, referring relevant cases and discharging the rest within 9 hours of the occurence of the accident.
Various equipment and inventory are available in the casualty of GRH to conduct life saving procedures. In case the patient is very sick, they are directly transferred to ICU where resuscitation takes place rapidly.
GRH is the first hospital to develop patient care and treatment protocols which are used to standardize the treatment for all the patients in Laamu Atoll.
